Working With Trial Lawyers to Handle Appeals

Experienced Arkansas Appellate Attorneys

Appellate practice in Arkansas has become increasingly complex. As a result, trial attorneys in Arkansas are frequently turning to appellate law firms, such as the Taylor & Taylor Law Firm, for assistance with Arkansas state court appeals.

Not only are appeals in Arkansas's state appellate courts governed by two different sets of rules, but there are a number of common pitfalls that attorneys in Arkansas face when filing an appeal – or even at trial in anticipation of the appeal – some of which are highlighted below:

This list doesn't include the numerous deadlines, with which strict compliance is required.

Our attorneys are experienced at handling appeals. Appellate Attorney Tasha Taylor spent two years as a judicial law clerk in the chambers of the Honorable Robert L. Brown, Associate Justice for the Arkansas Supreme Court.  As a judicial law clerk, part of Tasha's job was to review the addendum, the abstract, and the brief for deficiencies. As an appellate attorney, Tasha applies those skills to prepare briefs on appeal to the Arkansas Supreme Court and Arkansas Court of Appeals. As attorneys in private practice, Tasha Taylor & Andy Taylor have worked on numerous appeals to the Arkansas Supreme Court, the Arkansas Court of Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

Experienced at Legal Research

Our attorneys are experienced at conducting legal research. We believe that appellate practice requires the most comprehensive and up-to-date database of cases, so we have a variety of legal research databases at our fingertips through our expansive WestlawNext subscription. We use this database to conduct statewide and nationwide searches of both state and federal cases, as well as a nationwide database of law reviews and a wide variety of treatises.

Put Our Experience to Work in Your Client's Case

Not only do we associate with trial attorneys at the appellate court level, but we are also available to consult with trial attorneys at the trial court level to help prepare arguments that will be adequately preserved for appellate review.

The application of strict preservation rules by Arkansas's appellate courts has resulted in trial attorneys frequently retaining the services of appellate practitioners at the trial court level. It has become more and more important to be certain that arguments are specifically set out and ruled upon at the trial court level so that the merits of those arguments can be considered by Arkansas's state appellate courts.

How We Can Work with Trial Lawyers

Our experienced Arkansas Appellate Attorneys work with trial lawyers in the following ways:

  • Handle appeals from start to finish.

  • Draft appellate briefs.

  • Draft trial level briefs and motions for summary judgment to help preserve issues for appeal.

Working With Individuals & Businesses
to Handle Appeals

If you aren't satisfied with the result of your trial, you might be considering an appeal from your trial court judgment. If you are already represented by an attorney, you should discuss your options for an appeal with your trial attorney immediately. There are very strict deadlines associated with filing an appeal that must be followed in order for you to have a right to appeal. If you are not currently represented by an attorney for your appeal, you can contact us to discuss how we might be able to help you with your potential appeal.

We are mindful of the fact that appellate litigation is frequently costly and time-consuming. If you are trying to decide whether or not to appeal from your trial court judgment, we can help you make that decision. You can retain one of our experienced appellate attorneys to review your trial court record and provide you with an analysis of your potential issues on appeal.  If you have already decided to appeal, we can also work directly with you or with your trial attorney to handle your appeal from start to finish.
