Car accidents are often frightening and stressful situations. Even handling the aftermath of a wreck can be seriously traumatizing if it is not done properly.
Whether or not you sustain injuries in the wreck, there are certain steps you need to take in order to adequately address the situation. Additionally, having the right steps in place can help you make the most of your claim.
One of the most important steps to take after a car accident is taking photographs. Good photos can make all the difference in the outcome of your claim.
Here’s what you need to take photos of after a wreck:
The Accident Scene
The Scene Itself
Take lots of pictures of the accident scene. Take photos from many different angles. Be sure to capture photos of the road and weather conditions.
Be sure all vehicles involved in the collision are photographed from several directions. Do your best to photograph all damages to all vehicles, if possible.
Your Physical Injuries
If you sustain bodily injuries in a wreck, be sure to take photos of them before you receive medical care. If you’re unable to do so before receiving medical treatment, take photos of your injuries as soon as possible.
The Other Party’s License Plates
It’s a good idea to take photos of the other party’s license plates. That way, even if there’s any funny business during the life of your claim, you still have a good chance of identifying the person you were involved in a collision with.
The Other Driver(s) Involved
If you can do so safely and it isn’t too awkward, try to snap a photo or two of the other driver(s) involved in the wreck. That way, there is no question about who was driving the car when the accident occurred.
Other Essential Tips
Only take the images listed above if you are certain you are able to do so safely. If your injuries won’t allow you to take these images, wait for help, and request that someone else take the photos for you, if possible.
